
Barry L. Coleman specializes in organization development for non-profit and for-profit businesses, with particular emphasis on training design and facilitation, coaching, change management and succession planning.
Barry has more than 15 years of experience and has built an excellent reputation as a strategic human capital professional. He works in partnership with senior and middle level business unit managers. Barry designs and implements customized interventions that elevate the skills, knowledge, behaviors and effectiveness of leaders, teams and ultimately the organization to achieve its goals
Barry possesses considerable knowledge in leading organizations through large and small-scale change initiatives. He worked most recently as an internal organization development and human resources consultant for The Washington Post newspaper. To this role he brought enthusiasm, strong leadership, clear thinking and creative approaches to problem solving. He diagnosed skill deficiencies in leaders, devised robust leadership development plans and identified critical talent. The projects he completed included talent management and succession planning; development of an educational curriculum in partnership with targeted universities and colleges; a departmental culture change initiative; and design, delivery and oversight of a Respect in the Workplace program.
As the lead change management consultant for the Retail Credit Division at First Union, now Wachovia Bank, one of the country’s leading banking institutions, Barry provided strategic guidance and leadership in support of key human capital initiatives such as performance management, diversity management and change management. He conducted needs assessments, designed and delivered corporate change management programs and created customized training programs, to name few.
Barry is committed to helping organizations develop people and achieve sustainable results. He is skillful in group dynamics and has achieved outstanding results with large and small group facilitation assignments. Many of his coaching clients have experienced consistent, long-lasting success in their positions. His clients include: The City of Philadelphia, Public Welfare, Zion Baptist Church, Women in Transitions, Housing Assistance Council (HAC), Reynolds Real Estate Company and Novartis Pharmaceutical.
Barry earned a Masters of Science in Organization Development from American University/NTL Institute, where he also is currently Adjunct Professor, and an undergraduate degree in advertising from the Pennsylvania State University. He is also a member of the NTL Institute.
