Dan has coached senior managers, mid-level managers, individual contributors, CEO’s and owners of small and family-owned businesses for over 15 years. His major areas of focus are people development, relationship management, communication skills, strategic planning, and personal productivity..
Dan’s philosophy is to coach the whole person in their larger environment. He helps the client to look at how their strengths can help them achieve their individual and organizational goals, while identifying and managing the weaknesses and blind spots that may have held them back. He believes that people grow when they commit themselves to “moving the needle” by identifying the key areas and specific goals for growth for themselves and for their team. Part of his role as coach is to call them to a level of performance that they may not have believed possible, while also calling them to accountability for taking action and staying the course toward the goals they set.
Dan’s approach to coaching is to help clients understand what is most needed for them and their organization to succeed; to develop a plan and specific action steps for achieving the goals, including skills they may want to learn or improve; to challenge and support them in dealing with the inner and external obstacles they encounter; to help them strategize about leadership and relationship issues; and to help them affirm themselves and their people as they make progress toward their vision.
Dan has acted as Executive Coach at IBM for five years, providing individual coaching and group coaching at management retreats. He has coached CEOs and top level management teams for small to medium sized business in industries such as construction, retail, wholesale, and financial services and has provided career coaching to more than 100 federal employees and managers undergoing organizational restructuring. Dan has mentored dozens of business coaches as a Mentor Coach for a Business Coach Certificate Program at Duke and North Carolina State Universities.
